North Schuylkill ends soccer co-ops with Minersville boys, Mahanoy girls

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS – The North Schuylkill School District approved the termination of two co-op agreements in soccer Wednesday night.

The terminations came at Wednesday night’s regular school board meeting.

For boys’ soccer, Minersville Area is parting ways effective the end of this season. The board says Minersville is restarting their own team and will no longer send players to North Schuylkill.

For girls’ soccer, Mahanoy Area will no longer send players to North Schuylkill after this season. They will instead have a co-op with Shenandoah Valley.

In other business, the board approved the annual donations to the public libraries in the district.

The Frackville Library will receive $6,580, Ashland will receive $5,740, and Ringtown will receive $1,680.

Several students were also recognized as students of the month for October.

On the high school side, Matthew Hartz, 7th grade, and Alexis Woodman, 9th grade, were both recognized.

On the elementary side, seven 6th graders were recognized.

They were:

  • Mikayla Burke;
  • Chase Frantz;
  • Jedd Krause;
  • Brady Lindenmuth;
  • Mina Pennypacker.

In other business, the board approved:

  • An agreement for electrical engineering services for sports lighting power distribution from Sharpe Engineering, Limerick Township, at a cost of $13,200;
  • The regrading of swales along Academy Lane and near the salt shed by TJ McAndrew Excavating, Ashland, at a cost of $6,250;
  • The following facility usage requests:
    • NS Cheerleading Boosters to use the high school cafeteria for the monthly booster meeting;
    • Junior Spartans Basketball to use the elementary gym for biddy basketball practices;
    • The Schuylkill YMCA to use the Donald Bricker Natatorium for swim practices throughout the year;
  • The hiring of Giavana Halford as a lifeguard and/or swim instructor at an hourly rate of $11.50;
  • The following teachers for the Schuylkill ACHIEVE After School Program:
    • Christine Greblick;
    • Lercy Antalosky;
  • The issuance of permanent contracts to the following professional employees who completed three years of satisfactory service:
    • Jacob Shoener;
    • Devon Sinkovich;
  • The hiring of Avari Richards as a part-time paraprofessional at an hourly rate of $12.25, effective Oct. 16;
  • The hiring of Joanne Weikel as a part-time cafeteria worker at an hourly rate of $12.25, effective Oct. 3;
  • The hiring of Saoirse McGeary as a part-time cafeteria worker at an hourly rate of $12.25, effective Oct. 10;
  • The hiring of Jessica Ludwig as a part-time cafeteria worker at an hourly rate of $12.25;
  • A leave-of-absence for Donna Quinn, part-time paraprofessional, effective Oct. 18 to Nov. 10;
  • The hiring of Nicole Brouse as a full-time secretary at an hourly rate of $15.25;
  • The termination of Saoirse McGeary as a part-time cafeteria worker, effective Oct. 16, due to job abandonment;
  • The 2023-24 Title I Letter of Agreement between North Schuylkill and the Schuylkill IU for North Schuylkill children attending non-public schools;
  • The 2023-24 Schuylkill IU 29 Special Education Service Agreement for a total tentative amount of $435,714;
  • A post pay renewal contract with edmentum for FSCA for the 2023-24 school year;
  • The 2023-24 contract for transportation to the Schuylkill Technology Center;
  • The appointment of Jacob Skinner as a volunteer junior high boys basketball coach for the winter 2023-24 season;
  • The appointment of Jennifer Dacus as a volunteer varsity/junior high cross country coach for the 2023 fall season;
  • The adjustment of the salary for Cory Fetterolf, head wrestling coach, to $4,760.
