PennDOT said the project was to replace a bridge at Newtown Road.

While labelled as a bridge with a weight limit of 20 tons, it was a culvert carrying a tributary of the Shenandoah Creek.

The replacement also included the resurfacing of Route 54 from Raven Run Road to Convent Road.

During the road closure, traffic was detoured through Gilberton. The Shenandoah Valley School District also adjusted their bus routes.
