SHENANDOAH – Shenandoah Borough Council accepted the resignation of a member at Monday night’s meeting.

Joe Gawrylik turned in his resignation letter dated May 15 and effective Monday.

“I would like to thank and express my appreciation to all of the individuals who supported me during my election,” Gawrylik said in his resignation letter read aloud by Council President Joe Boris. “I can no longer be a part of a group of individuals that I once supported.”

Gawrylik had not been present for the past two council meetings and had left the February meeting early.

“I want to thank Joe for his time spent,” Boris said. “He was very instrumental in working with me and Zeckie when we went for the election in 2024 so I wish him the best on behalf of all of council.”

“I wish Joe Gawrylik all the luck, I’ve known him a long time, he’s been part of the borough for the last two or so years and he did the best he could,” Council Vice-President Mike ‘Zeckie’ Uholik said.

Councilman Andrew Szczyglak made a motion to advertise for a replacement.

“Let’s make it fair and give everybody the opportunity to apply,” he said.

Council has 30 days to appoint a replacement to fill the remainder of his term which runs to the end of next year.

The next council meeting is June 15.
