About

The Shenandoah Sentinel is northern Schuylkill County’s news source, covering news and sports in and around Shenandoah, Ashland, Mahanoy City, Frackville, Nuremberg, and the surrounding areas.

Beginning as a project for a high school senior pursuing a career in journalism, the Sentinel has grown to become the first source of news in northern Schuylkill.

In a world where social media is increasingly at the center of our lives, we provide the most accurate, up-to-the-minute news coverage in a manner most convenient for the modern individual. We’re your community connection.

Our Coverage Area

The Shenandoah Sentinel’s primary coverage area consists of the eight boroughs and six townships that make up northern Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania in the heart of the Anthracite Coal Region.

Those communities include Shenandoah, Ashland, Mahanoy City, Frackville, Girardville, Gordon, Ringtown, Gilberton, Sheppton, and Nuremberg.

Our Staff

Currently, the Shenandoah Sentinel has one writer/editor, its founder Kaylee Lindenmuth, who also serves as a photographer.

Lindenmuth’s journalistic efforts with the Sentinel, the Kutztown University Keystone Newspaper, the Northern Berks Patriot Item, the Reading Eagle, and the Mahanoy City Coal Cracker Kids youth newspaper were recognized with scholarships, including the National Press Club’s Richard Zimmerman Scholarship and Kutztown’s Keystone Newswriting Scholarship. Her content for the Sentinel has been featured in the Bloomsburg Press-Enterprise, as well as on every major TV station in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre DMA.

In 2021, Lindenmuth received a first place award for breaking news photo in the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association’s Professional Keystone Awards.

In 2022, she followed up with two first place awards in the same contest — for breaking news photo and graphic/photo illustration — along with two second place awards for breaking news photo and news beat reporting.

In 2023, Lindenmuth was nominated for a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award for her work on an investigative series produced for WFMZ-TV.
