Mahanoy City police car involved in crash Friday afternoon
MAHANOY CITY – A Mahanoy City police vehicle was struck by a driver who ran a stop sign Friday, State Police at Frackville said today.
State Police released information on the accident Tuesday afternoon.
Troopers said the crash happened around 3pm at East Pine and 7th Streets in the borough.
Hopeton Brevett, 46, of Mahanoy City, was headed north on 7th Street in a 2004 Ford Expedition and came to the intersection of Pine Street, where a stop sign is posted.
Charles Kovalewski, 46, a Mahanoy City police officer in a marked 2017 Ford Police Interceptor Utility, was headed east on Pine Street.
Troopers said Brevett turned left onto Pine Street and struck the driver side door of the police car.
Both vehicles were driven from the scene.
Brevett will be cited for the stop sign violation, troopers said.
No injuries were reported in the crash.
