DEP investigating reported gasoline spill in Mahanoy City
MAHANOY CITY – A gasoline spill led to at least ten odor investigation calls in Mahanoy City and state officials are investigating.
The spill happened around 4am Friday at the Trac6 convenience store on East Centre Street according to the Schuylkill County Emergency Management Agency.
A supplier was delivering fuel when the tanks became overfilled and, with heavy rains in the area, fuel made its way into storm drains in the area, EMA says.
The Mahanoy City Fire Department responded to about ten odor investigation calls and the Mahanoy City Police Department posted about the issue Friday morning. No significant readings were found by the fire department.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Northeast Regional Office is investigating and following up with the clean-up which EMA says is being provided by the store’s owner.
DEP has not yet provided an update to the Sentinel.
