UPDATED: Minersville woman killed in Darkwater crash

DARKWATER – A 35-year-old Minersville woman was killed in this New Castle Township village in Wednesday afternoon.

State Police at the scene said one vehicle, a Toyota Yaris, entered Route 61 from Darkwater Road and was struck by a Volkswagen that was headed south on Route 61 towards Saint Clair around 2:20pm.

The driver of the Yaris, identified by State Police as Jessica Andruchek, 35, of Minersville, was pronounced dead at 3:00pm, the coroner’s office said.

Route 61 was closed from Mall Road near Frackville to Wal-Mart in Saint Clair for several hours.

Fire crews from Saint Clair’s Alert, Rescue Hook and Ladder, and West End fire companies responded to the scene, while fire police from Saint Clair and the Frackville area directed traffic during the closure.

The driver of the Volkswagen, 18-year-old Arizona Rentschler, Schuylkill Haven, was taken to St. Luke’s Geisinger for treatment of a possible injury.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts, troopers said.

The road reopened around 7:00pm.

Troopers said the crash remains under investigation.
