Police: York man broke into ex’s boyfriend’s South Bower home

SHENANDOAH – A York man is free on bail after borough police accused him of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s new partner’s home.

Jeremy Gross, 29, of 1029 Chanceford Avenue, is facing felony criminal trespass, misdemeanor simple assault, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, and summary harassment charges for the New Year’s Eve incident. The charges were filed by Lt. Travis Bowman.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker’s Shenandoah courtroom, Bowman and Ptlm. Mindy Petrus were dispatched to 17 South Bower around 1am on Dec. 31 for a fight in progress.

When the officers arrived, they heard screaming from inside the home and saw that the front door’s glass was broken and the door was broken where the lock meets the door frame.

Inside, the two found multiple people subduing a man, later identified as Gross, on the second floor at the top of the stairs.

One of the residents, Juan Chinchay Jr., told police Gross had broken in.

Gross was handcuffed and escorted outside.

Juan Chinchay Sr. told police he had heard a crashing noise downstairs while he was upstairs. When he went to investigate, he was met by Gross. Chinchay Jr. also heard the noise and investigated as well. Jr. grabbed Gross and put him in a headlock, police said.

Another man, named Edwin, was with Gross and began punching Chinchay Jr. before fleeing from the home.

Chinchay Jr. ran upstairs to retrieve a baseball bat for defense and was followed by and struck by Gross atop the stairs. Multiple members of the household then subdued Gross.

Gross is Chinchay Jr.’s girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend, police said.

Both Chinchays suffered minor injuries in the scuffle and all involved refused EMS evaluation.

Gross was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko and committed to Schuylkill County Prison, with bail set at $50,000.

Gross posted bail Tuesday.
