MAHANOY CITY – Earlier this week, the Mahanoy Area School District hosted a basketball showcase, pitting its Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) students against teachers, staff, and community members.

It was all in an effort to raise money to send 15 FBLA students to states and have fun in the process.

Dozens came out to the Mickey Holland Gymnasium Wednesday for the event.

The FBLA students won the matchup, as Joey Noraka, a student, and Superintendent Joie Green provided commentary during the game.

School board members commended the effort at Thursday’s meeting.

“You guys are awesome,” John Honus, a school board member, said of the staff members who helped organize and participate in the event. “It was so cool seeing you guys involved in that. Thank you for getting out of your comfort zone and doing that. That was very cool.”
