Locals involved in Elysburg crash

ELYSBURG, Northumberland County – Several locals were involved in a four-car crash in this Ralpho Township village Thursday afternoon.

The crash happened around 2:00pm Thursday at South Market Street and Monastery Road in Elysburg.

The Bloomsburg Press-Enterprise reported that two people were taken to local hospitals in the crash.

According to the report, Kimberly Sankus, 45, of Ashland, lost control of her 2011 Chevy Tahoe and rear-ended a 2013 Nissan Rogue, driven by Stephen Mikita, 52.

The Rogue was pushed into a 2007 Jeep Patriot, driven by 35-year-old Christopher Burdess.

Joseph Recla, 58, of Mahanoy Plane, was following behind Sankus in a Rick’s Refrigeration van, rear-ended her Tahoe as a result of the sudden stop.

Virginia Mikita, 73, Weston Place, was taken to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville via a personal vehicle for treatment of injuries, while Stephen Mikita had shin and head injuries, according to the Bloomsburg paper.

Joseph Burdess, a passenger in Christopher Burdess’s vehicle, was taken to Geisinger for head and chest injuries, and another passenger, Beverly Burdess, was also injured, but not transported.

Sankus and Recla were unharmed.

Burdess’s vehicle was able to be driven, while the rest were towed from the scene.

Firefighters from Elysburg and Overlook responded along with Ralpho Township Police, Geisinger and AREA Services EMS, and Elysburg Fire Police.
