Another threat evacuates Coal Twp. Walmart

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - Law enforcement officers, including a K-9, enter the Walmart near Kulpmont Saturday night.

COAL TWP., Northumberland County – For the second day in a row, police converged on the Walmart near Kulpmont after a threat was received.

The store on Route 61 between Kulpmont and Shamokin was evacuated around 9:30pm.

A K-9 unit from Geisinger Health System’s security division responded and swept the entirety of the store for explosive devices, of which none were found.

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL – Police vehicles from Coal Township, Shamokin, and Kulpmont are parked in the Walmart parking lot.

Emergency services were clear of the scene by 11:00pm.

Responding Saturday were police officers from Coal Township, Kulpmont, and Shamokin city, along with fire police.

The threat comes one day after a similar threat was made earlier in the afternoon.
