HS FOOTBALL: Stout Green Knight defense stifles Bears in Eastern Conference playoff, 26-6

PEN ARGYL – Mahanoy Area returned to the slate belt Saturday for a rematch against the Green Knights of Pen Argyl, this time for hardware.

The Bears entered the Eastern Conference showdown 4-6 against a 5-5 Green Knight squad they lost soundly to earlier in the season.

On the first drive of the game, Mahanoy Area drove deep into the redzone, only to be stifled by Pen Argyl, who forced a turnover on downs.

A defensive battle ensued until the second quarter, when Pen Argyl’s Damian Tyminski scored on a short run with under 10 minutes left in the half.

Pen Argyl followed up with an onside kick recovery that ended with a Brad Rismiller pass to Mason Soos to extend the Green Knight lead to 14-0.

That would stay the difference until the fourth quarter when Tyminski would find paydirt again to extend the lead to 20-0.

A pass from Levi Terry to Ethan Manley would cut the lead to 20-6, though Pen Argyl immediately answered with a Rismiller pass to Brad Lacey to make the score 26-6.

The Bears finish their season with a 4-7 record, while Pen Argyl secured the Eastern Conference 1A/2A trophy with a 6-5 record.
