HS FOOTBALL: Pen Argyl defeats Mahanoy, 43-13

PEN ARGYL, Northampton County – The Green Knights of Pen Argyl handed Mahanoy Area a sound defeat in the slate belt Saturday afternoon.

The Bears entered the game 0-1 after a narrow week 1 loss to Harriton, while Pen Argyl entered 1-0 after a sound victory over Wilson.

The Green Knights found paydirt first on the ground, scoring with just under 9 minutes left in the 1st. They would extend their lead to 14-0 with about 6 minutes left in the quarter before Mahanoy would answer just shy of the end of the quarter.

With 7:30 left in the second quarter, Mahanoy nearly tied the ballgame but the point after fell short, giving Pen Argyl a 14-13 advantage.

That would be the end of Mahanoy’s scoring for the game as Pen Argyl ran away, scoring another touchdown in the 2nd quarter to take a 21-13 lead into the halftime break.

With 9 minutes left in the third, Pen Argyl score again, this time attempting a two point conversion, which was successful.

Two more scores in the 4th quarter, both with traditional point after attempts, would give Pen Argyl a 43-13 victory.

Mahanoy returns home Friday to face Panther Valley in a game that will be televised on WYLN-TV 35 Hazleton.
