Eight arrested after bush party, apparent shots fired in Mahanoy Township

CRAIGS – Eight people were arrested after an apparent bush party included shots fired in Mahanoy Township over the weekend.

Mahanoy Township Police said they were investigating a noise complaint in the Vulcan Road area. Patrolman Anthony Maldonado, police said, heard shots fired in the distance while investigating.

The source of both were believed to be at the Locust Ridge I wind farm off Route 339 north of Mahanoy City.

Police arrived to find a large gathering with multiple vehicles, some with roof-mounted speakers, and a white BMW was parked near the entrance to the wind farm.

Officers stopped that vehicle and eight people were taken into custody. Police said that initial commands in English were ignored, though Spanish commands were complied with.

Mahanoy City, Shenandoah, and East Union Township police officers assisted on the call.

Township Police said the incident led to multiple arrests, a firearm seizure, and federal immigration violations being uncovered. Further details were not provided.
