Butler Twp. man escapes injury after deer strike, car fire

ENGLEWOOD – No one was injured when an SUV struck a deer and caught fire in this Butler Township village Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened just after 6:00pm on Route 61 in the area of West Pine Street.

Butler Township Police at the scene tell the Sentinel Scott McCormick, of Butler Township, was headed west on Route 61 towards Fountain Springs when a deer ran into the roadway.

McCormick had no time to react, striking the deer broadside with his Chevy Traverse.

He continued for about 100 yards, stopping at the Pine Street intersection as the vehicle was smoking and arcing.

Shortly after he came to a stop, the vehicle caught fire.

Firefighters from Fountain Springs, Englewood, and Altamont responded to the scene and brought the fire under control in short order.

McCormick was not injured in the crash.

His vehicle was towed from the scene by Steve’s Towing.

Also responding to the scene was Frackville Police.
