PSP: Allentown woman tried to smuggle synthetic opioid strips into prison
MOREA – An Allentown woman is in Schuylkill County Prison, accused of trying to smuggle synthetic opioid strips into the state prison here.
Estella Aaron, 40, of Allentown, is facing felony contraband, possession with intent to deliver, and misdemeanor related drug charges.
Trooper Michael Owens of the State Police at Frackville filed the charges Thursday.
In the criminal complaint, he said troopers were called to the State Correctional Institute – Mahanoy for a report that a woman — Aaron — had brought in several strips of buprenorphine into the prison.
Buprenorphine is a synthetic opioid often used to treat opioid dependence, according to the National Library of Medicine.
Aaron told troopers that she “f—-d up” in reference to what was found on her, Owens wrote.
The strips –140 in total — were found inside her purse.
Prison investigators told troopers that she had been intercepted by phone in conversation with an inmate prior.
She was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker and committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post $25,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is set for June 20.
