MOREA – A man who was on the run since June after authorities say he and six others broke out of a Missouri county lockup is now housed in northern Schuylkill County.

Mario Che-Tiul, 34, had been on the run since June 1 and was caught Thursday by the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force near Avondale, Chester County, not far from the Delaware state line.

Friday, he was transferred to the State Correctional Institution – Mahanoy, a medium security near Morea, Mahanoy Township.

Marshals said Che-Tiul and six others violently attacked two correctional officers at the Barry County Hail in Cassville, Missouri, about 50 miles southwest of Springfield, before fleeing the prison.

Thursday morning, marshals received information that he may be staying at a home in Avondale and, soon after, authorities surrounded the home and located Che-Tiul.

Eric Gartner, United States Marshal for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania said in a media release, “This latest capture of an escaped prisoner from Missouri should underscore a very clear message, and one that applies globally: our efforts never cease. Ever.”
