TEENER BASEBALL: Mahanoy falls to Branch Twp. in semis

LLEWELLYN – Mahanoy City couldn’t catch any breaks in their second game of the day Friday, facing #1 Branch Township in the Schuylkill County Teener League Junior Division semifinals.

The game immediately followed the continuation of yesterday’s deadlocked quarterfinal against the Shenandoah Mrs. T’s team, a 15-14 victory in Mahanoy’s favor after nine innings.

It didn’t take long for Branch Township to take the lead, ending the first inning with a 3-0 advantage.

That advantage would grow to 5-0 after three innings.

Mahanoy, the #4 seed in the tournament, scored one in the fourth, chipping away at Branch’s lead, though the fifth inning would see Branch add four runs to the board.

Each team would add another run in the sixth, and a scoreless seventh led to a 10-2 final score in Branch’s favor.

Branch Township will face #3-seeded Hegins in a best-of-3 championship series beginning Tuesday, August 4.
