Seniors recognized in American Legion baseball game

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - Schuylkill Valley seniors line up with relatives during a senior night ceremony on July 21, 2020.

POTTSVILLE – Though the game was officially an American Legion game between Tamaqua and Schuylkill Valley, the jerseys depicted a bout between the Blue Raiders against much of the rest of the county.

That’s because the players for each squad wore the jerseys of their alma maters, as the seniors, deprived of a senior game of their own this year, were recognized.

A senior night ceremony was held prior to the game, held at Steidle Field in Pottsville.

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL – Local seniors Zach Chowansky, Jake Thomas, and Ryan Walter. Will Conroy arrived at the game midway through.

Schuylkill Valley’s team included four seniors from our local school districts — Will Conroy and Jake Thomas from Shenandoah and Zach Chowansky and Ryan Walter from North Schuylkill. The team is made up of players from Pottsville, Shenandoah Valley, North Schuylkill, and Nativity BVM.

Other seniors recognized included Aiden Brennan, Ryan Lindenmuth, and Dylan Shirey from Pottsville, and Jake Ferhat from Nativity BVM.
