Reports: Geisinger set to buy North’d ambulance service

SHAMOKIN – A family-owned private ambulance company that covers part of our area may soon be under the umbrella of one of the big three health networks in Eastern Pennsylvania.

Multiple reports stated Friday that Geisinger is buying AREA Services ambulance, of Shamokin.

AREA has a station in Atlas, Mount Carmel Township, and their units often run into the Ashland area and sometimes as far as Shenandoah.

The purchase from the Rumberger family is in the early stages, the company is cited as saying.

The reports cite a press release from Geisinger, which was not posted with the company’s other press releases.
