No one hurt in Luzerne fire

SAINT JOHNS, Luzerne County – Flames damaged a home in this Butler Township, Luzerne County village Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters from across southern Luzerne County were called to 888 Saint Johns Road for a reported house fire around 6:15pm.

First responders arrived to find heavy smoke billowing from the second floor of the two-and-a-half story home.

Valley Regional Fire’s engine arrived on scene moments later, quickly followed by Hazle Township’s tiller, and lines were stretched into the home.

With the rural location, tankers from around the region were called as well.

Firefighters contended with a stubborn blaze that, about 40 minutes into the firefight, engulfed the attic area.

The fire was brought under control by 8:00pm.

No one was hurt, and no one was home at the time the fire broke out.

A State Police fire marshal has been called in to investigate.

Responding to the scene along with Valley Regional and Hazle Township Fire were firefighters from Hazleton city; White Haven; Freeland; Foster Township, Luzerne County; Dennison Township, emergency medical personnel from Valley Regional, and police from Butler Township, Luzerne County.

Saint Johns Road reopened around 10:30pm, according to Valley Regional’s Facebook page.
