Mahanoy City Police positively identify suspect in Friday stabbing; victim in stable condition

MAHANOY CITY – Borough police have positively identified the person of interest suspected in the stabbing of a male on the 500 block of East Mahanoy Street in the borough on Friday, and police say the two knew each other.

According to Mahanoy City Police, the investigation into the stabbing began when a male was brought to a Pottsville hospital around 7:42pm suffering stab wounds. Information revealed the incident occurred in Mahanoy City and officers began to search for the scene.

Officers located the scene in the 500 block of East Mahanoy Street and began to investigate, assisted by Mahanoy Township Police and Mahanoy City Fire Police.

Overnight, borough police released a photo of a person of interest in the case, seeking the public’s assistance, who they say now has been positively identified.

No name has been released, but officers say the two were previously known to each other, and the incident was not a random act.

The victim was treated at a regional trauma hospital and is now reported to be in stable condition.

“This is still an active investigation,” said Chief Ken Zipovsky. “The Mahanoy City Police Department is continuing its endeavor to conclude this case.
