Mahanoy City council approves street sweeping days, sending letter to absent councilman

MAHANOY CITY – The borough’s annual street sweeping days are set here.

Borough Council approved the 2024 street sweeping agreement at Tuesday night’s council meeting. The days will be May 21 and 22.

John Fatula, borough manager, told the Sentinel that the agreement will cost the borough $5,500 and every street in the borough will be swept.

In other business, council approved sending a letter to Councilman Ben Weissner “regarding his failure to fulfill the duties of the Mahanoy City Borough Council for which he was elected.”

Weissner was not present at Tuesday’s meeting.

Fatula said the borough’s home rule charter has provisions for the removal of a councilman in such a case, and council has been lenient to this point.
