HS BASKETBALL: Lady Devils down Bears, 42-28; Girls’ Roundup

SHENANDOAH – The Lady Devils earned their 10th win on the season on senior night over the Golden Bears.

Three Devils contributed double-digit points on the way to the 42-28 victory.

Hannah DeAngelo scored 12 points and Ava Menjivar and Maddie Wasser both added with 11 points apiece.

Thursday’s bout — Shenandoah’s penultimate game of the season — was close early on.

The two squads were tied at 10 after the first quarter, but the Devils defense kicked into high gear in the second quarter, keeping the Bears scoreless while adding 11 points to take a 21-10 lead into the break.

Mahanoy struggled to close the gap, trailing with a 34-21 deficit entering the final quarter.

Shenandoah improves to 10-11 on the season while Mahanoy falls to 8-11.

The Devils are on the road Monday at Tri-Valley, and the Bears travel to Wyoming Seminary on Saturday.

Hazleton 55 Wilkes-Barre 25

HAZLETON – After Crestwood snapped their 15-game winning streak Monday, the Lady Cougars bounced back quickly.

Sophia Benyo led in scoring with 14 points for Hazleton Area as they hosted Wilkes-Barre.

The Cougars soundly defeated the Wolfpack 55-25.

Benyo was the only player in double digits for the Cougars, while Sophia Shults added 9 and Kaitlyn Bindas added 8.

JIM THORPE – The Lady Spartans improved to 16-2 with a decisive victory over Jim Thorpe Thursday night.

North Schuylkill’s effort was led by a trifecta of players with 13 points apiece: Olivia Burke, Mya Conti, and Brigid Flynn.

The Spartans lead District XI 4A.
