POTTSVILLE – Shenandoah Valley’s boys’ basketball season came to an end at Martz Hall Friday night, as Williams Valley triumphed to win the District XI 2A title.

Friday’s game was a tale of two halves.

In the first, Shenandoah hung with the Vikings, shot-by-shot, blow-by-blow.

The Devils struck first, though Williams Valley quickly took the lead.

By the end of one quarter, the advantage for the Vikings was a single point, 9-8 in favor of Williams Valley.

At the half, the gap widened to five points, a 21-16 score for the Vikings.

In the third quarter, the Vikings took over on both sides of the ball, holding Shenandoah to six points while Williams Valley extended their lead. Entering the fourth, the Vikings held a 39-22 advantage.

Shenandoah’s attempts to close the gap were bet by turnovers, which Williams Valley quickly capitalized on, and unfavorable calls by the referees.

When one minute remained in the game, Shenandoah’s backups were given playing time as Williams Valley awaited their 52-37 victory.

Williams Valley moves on to the state tournament, while, unlike years previous, when both district finalists would move on, Shenandoah’s season ends.
