‘Glass’ vandal caught, charged; caused $2,600 in damage

SHENANDOAH – The man accused of spray-painting “Glass” and “GLA” all over town is facing charges.

Janus Zev Miguel Sosa, 22, of South West Street, is facing misdemeanor criminal mischief and summary disorderly conduct charges.

Those charges were filed by Shenandoah Police on Nov. 8.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Patrolmen Mark Hysock and Cody Applegate, Sosa was interviewed by police on Oct. 19 about numerous complaints of vandalism in town in the southside area between Sept. 20 and Oct. 10.

Sosa initially denied any involvement until officers showed him photos of the incidents, at which point police said he was responsible for all of the “GLA” and “Glass” paintings, as well as any paintings over surveillance cameras.

He then told police he was the only person involved and said he would be willing to reimburse for any damages and clean any paint off that he needs to.

Police said that numerous properties were tagged, including the Schuylkill Historical Fire Society, Oravitz Funeral Home, the Polish American Fire Co., and numerous homes around West Atlantic Street and South West Street.

The Historical Fire Society was hit twice, once on Sept. 20 with “Glass” and again on Oct. 8 with “You can’t stop GLA,” causing $1,300 in damage.

Two homes in the 200 block of West Atlantic Street had cameras painted over and one had GLA painted on the side of the house on Oct. 1.

That same night, a home on South West Street had “GLA” painted on a garage door and a camera painted over, while the Oravitz Funeral Home at Jardin and Lloyd Street had “GLA painted on a side door and the Polish American Fire Co. had the same painted on the garage door. A tent set up for the fire company’s Rock the Block fundraiser was also tagged that night.

On Oct. 8, a doorbell camera on West Oak Street was sprayed over, and on Oct. 10, the Shenandoah High Rise was also tagged.

Police said Sosa caused a combined $2,644.99 in damages.

A preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 14 before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker.
