FRACKVILLE – Borough Council here approved the purchase of four new police vehicles Thursday night.

The new cruisers will be paid for through a $655k grant the department received last year.

Council approved the purchases in two motions.

In one, council approved buying two Ford F-150 Police Responder pickup trucks at a cost of $96,508.

The other motion called for the purchase of two Ford Police Interceptor Utilities, the police version of the Ford Explorer.

That motion is to reserve two 2024 model year vehicles and a cost has not been determined yet, “so we don’t get into a backlog problem and end up losing the money,” Councilman Ed Beneshunas said.

The police force currently has three vehicles, all Explorers. The oldest is a 2016 and the newest is a 2019.

In other business, Mayor Kim Phillips said a stop sign will be placed at 4th and Frack for 90 days and will be monitored to see if it is beneficial for the neighborhood.

Council also approved:

  • the addition of Councilman Stephen Tertel as an authorized signatory for bills;
  • the purchase of snow blades for $1,100;
  • the 2024 road program, specific streets were not listed;
  • a contract with Signal Service, Inc. for traffic signal maintenance at a cost of $1,700;
  • a $2,000 change order for the design of a salt shed;
  • the use of the borough gym from June 10 to Aug. 16 by the YMCA;
  • advertising for summer seasonal employment;
  • councilmen Brian Russell and Tertel attending the 2024 Borough Association boot camp Feb. 16 and 17;
  • the appointment of Tertel as the borough delegate to the Northern Schuylkill Council of Governments and the North Schuylkill Landfill Association.
