FRACKVILLE – Frackville Police were awarded over $655,000 in state grants for a variety of equipment, State Senator David G. Argall (R-29) and State Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-123) announced Wednesday.

The borough received $655,940 for protective vests, security cameras, mobile radios, vehicles, and more, the announcement said.

The grants are part of the Commonwealth’s Commission on Crime Delinquency’s Local Law Enforcement Support Grant Program. That program was created this past July.

“Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to keep the rest of us safe every single day,” Argall was quoted in the release. “These highly competitive grants will help them do their critically important job at the highest possible level.”

“I am very grateful for the local law enforcement support grants designated to parts of Schuylkill County, as I wholeheartedly support our police and the work they do,” Twardzik added. “Our local law enforcement plays such an important and critical role in protecting our communities. This funding will ensure they are equipped with the proper and up-to-date tools to help them successfully complete their tireless and invaluable work.”

Minersville and Pottsville also received grants of $64,530 and $300,930 respectively.

Program funding, the legislators say, can be used for projects and purchases which enhance public safety, such as communications system upgrades, body-worn or in-car cameras, recruitment and retention, training, surveillance cameras, automated license plate readers and more.
