HOMETOWN – Five people were taken to local hospitals for treatment of non-life threatening injures after a two vehicle crash in Rush Township earlier today.

The crash occurred just after 11:30am today, according to township police, when a Jeep Liberty, driven by a 17-year-old male from Summit Hill, Carbon County, pulled out from a Marian Avenue onto Mahanoy Avenue near Hometown “when it was unsafe to do so,” police said.

His Liberty collided with a Nissan Murano driven by Maryann Grega, of Weatherly, Carbon County, and the Liberty flipped.

Both vehicles suffered extensive damage, and the driver of the Liberty was entrapped inside the vehicle.  Hometown firefighters extricated the teen.

He and his three passengers were taken to local hospitals for treatment of injuries, as was Grega, police said.

Township police were assisted by the Hometown Fire Company, Hometown Fire Police, McAdoo Ambulance, Tamaqua Ambulance, and APTS Ambulance.
