ELECTION 2023: Incumbents Jordan, Berger, newcomer Russell win seats on Frackville Council

Write-in campaign falls short

FRACKVILLE – With two incumbents running for three seats on Frackville Borough Council, it was guaranteed there would be a new face at the table next year.

Voters decided Tuesday that the newcomer would be Republican Brian Russell Sr., who was the second highest vote-getter with 512 votes.

Incumbent Republican Council President Ronald Jordan and fellow incumbent Republican Charles Berger both earned seats as well, finishing 1st and 3rd with 569 and 483 respectively.

Democrat Jim Lavelle came seven votes shy of Berger with 476 votes.

Tylor Blackwell mounted a last-minute write-in campaign, but, while specific write-in tallies are not yet available, there were not enough write-ins cast to eclipse Lavelle.

“I am here for the residents, not for my own agenda, because I am one of you,” Russell wrote in a letter to voters. In it, he promised to stop overspending on council, build back the downtown business district, and provide transparency on council.

He also said he plans to donate his council stipend back to the borough.
