Catawissa man accused in DUI crash in Kulpmont

KULPMONT, Northumberland County – Charges are pending against a Catawissa man for a vehicle accident early Sunday morning in this Northumberland County borough.

State Police at Stonington said they were called for a crash in the 1200 block of Chesntut Street — Route 61 — around 6:00am for a reported vehicle accident.

Troopers arrived to find a crash involving a 2012 Ford Fusion and a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500.

Troopers said Jeffrey Murphy, 38, of Catawissa had been travelling along Route 61 when he drifted out of his lane of travel before striking a parked car.

Suspected drugs were found on Murphy at Geisinger Shamokin Hospital, troopers said.

Troopers said that Murphy indicated the drugs were methamphetamine, and that he had been using meth prior to the crash.

“He indicated he didn’t know how or why he crashed because he had been using meth,” troopers said in a media release.

The investigation remains open pending blood test results, troopers said.
