Carbon man threatened woman, shot pet chicken in dispute over bike loan

PACKER TWP, Carbon County – A Weatherly man is in Carbon County Prison after state troopers say he threatened to shoot a woman and police, then shot and killed a pet chicken in a dispute over a motorcycle loan.

The incident happened around 11:30am on June 5, when State Police at Hazleton were called to the 1700 block of Hudson Drive in Packer Township for the dispute.

State Troopers said 28-year-old Christopher Hoffman, of Weatherly, and a 27-year-old woman were engaged in a verbal argument over a loan for a motorcycle Hoffman wanted.

The woman said she was going to call the police, troopers said, at which point Hoffman threatened to “shoot her and the police” if she did so.

Hoffman was armed with a pistol, and, when he left the residence, he shot and killed a pet chicken.

Hoffman was charged with terroristic threats and harassment, and committed to Carbon County Prison, unable to post $100,000 bail.
