Ashland manager Jones announces run for commissioner

ASHLAND – The manager of this borough announced he is seeking the Republican nomination for Schuylkill County Commissioner.

“I have dedicated my life to serving my community and helping others,” Ray Jones, of Ashland, a Cardinal Brennan graduate said. “I believe the time is right for me to bring my passion for public service to Schuylkill County government.”

“Now more than ever, Schuylkill County needs someone to stand strong for the taxpayers in the face of the property tax reassessment,” Jones added.

Jones is seeking the nomination in the May 16 primary. He added that he believes there is a need for greater transparency in the courthouse.

“We need a conservative leader to institute transparency and efficiency for the peoples’ tax dollars. We need to conduct more work in house instead of hiring high priced consultants,” Jones added. “I am running to provide tangible solutions to the problems our county faces. I believe Schuylkill County residents are ready for change.”

The longtime borough manager in Ashland, Jones touts his experience there and in fighting blight with the Schuylkill County Land Bank.

“Public service is my passion,” Jones said. “With the right kind of leadership, Schuylkill County can become a destination for businesses looking to relocate, providing good jobs and families looking for a great place to live, work and raise their families.”

He is Vice Chairman of the Schuylkill County Land Bank and serves on the Northern Schuylkill Council of Governments, Ashland Community Enterprises, and board of directors of the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce.
