PSP Police Log, 12/22/2022

NORTHERN SCHUYLKILL – The following is a compilation of police incidents in and around the northern Schuylkill area, handled by the Pennsylvania State Police.

Drug Possession

POTTSVILLE- A Shenandoah woman and a Pottsville man were charged for drug possession after a traffic stop in the city earlier this month.

State Police at Schuylkill Haven said they stopped a 2006 Subaru in downtown Pottsville around 2:30am Dec. 8.

Troopers subsequently arrested Alicia Jones, 38, of Shenandoah, and Zachary Kohr, 26, of Pottsville, for drug possession.

Retail Theft

HAZLE TWP. – State Police at Hazleton filed charges against a 41-year-old Hazleton woman, accused of stealing $52 worth of meat and vegetables on Dec. 14.

Troopers charged Digna Soraya Brito-Lopez with summary retail theft.

Troopers said they were called to the Walmart store at 761 Airport Road and found that Brito-Lopez had failed to pay for multipleitems.

Vehicle Accident

SUGARLOAF TWP. – No injuries were reported after a two-vehicle crash at Route 93 and Tomhicken Road last Friday.

State Police said the crash happened around 4:45am Dec. 16.

Corey Gilbert, 46, of Berwick, was headed south in a 2005 Subaru Legacy on Route 93 approaching Tomhicken Road behind Justice Batista, 63, of Hazleton, in a 2010 Ford Explorer.

Gilbert attempted to pass Batista, clipped the rear end of Batista’s SUV, and lost control, troopers said.

Both vehicles received disabling damage and were towed, troopers said.

Vehicle Accident

HAZLE TWP. – A Hazleton man was cited for speeding after a crash near the city last Thursday.

Troopers said the crash happened around 10pm Thursday on the Arthur Gardner Parkway near Church Street.

Kelvin Aquino Rondon, 41, of Hazleton, lost control of his 2017 Acura MDX on the snow-covered roadway and slid down a grass embankment, striking a tree.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Vehicle Accident

HUMBOLDT – One person was taken to the hospital after a crash on Route 924 in the Humboldt section of Hazle Township last Friday.

State Police at Hazleton said the crash happened around 7:30am Dec. 16 on Route 924 near Oakridge Road.

Francizco Rodriguez Hernandez, 31, of Hazle Township, was headed west on Route 924 in a 2014 Toyota Rav4 when he lost control of the vehicle.

The SUV slid, travelled up an embankment, and rolled over, troopers said.

Rodriguez Hernandez was uninjured, but his passenger, 27-year-old Jorge Paulino Cruz, of Hazle Township, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Hazleton for treatment.

Rodriguez Hernandez was cited for speeding.

Vehicle Accident

HUMBOLDT – No injuries were reported in a crash last Thursday in the Humboldt Industrial Park.

State Police at Hazleton said the crash happened around 3:30pm Dec. 15 on Oak Ridge Road near Simmons Drive.

Troopers said Lissette Sosa, 42, of Berwick, was headed east on Oak Ridge Road in a 2014 Toyota Sienna, behind Arthur Ford Washington, 50, of West Hazleton, in a 2006 Mazda MPV.

Ford Washington slowed for a snowplow and was struck by Sosa, who troopers alleged was driving too fast for conditions.

Sosa received a written warning, while Ford Washington was cited for driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Retail Theft

HAZLE TWP. – Two from West Hazleton were charged with retail theft, accused of stealing nearly $200 in merchandise from Walmart.

Troopers said they were called to the Hazle Township Walmart around 5pm Saturday, Dec. 17 for the incident.

Xachary Hudock, 22, and Micala Sedar, 24, both of West Hazleton, were charged with retail theft, for allegedly attempting to remove $198.91 in merchandise without paying.
