Bridge replacement to close Route 54 in William Penn

WILLIAM PENN – An upcoming road work project will have Route 54 closed between William Penn and Lost Creek.

Crews are planning to replace the bridge between Raven Run Road and Newtown Road beginning April 27.

Signs for the upcoming closure are already posted in Shenandoah and Girardville.

PennDOT says the project should take about two weeks. While labelled as a bridge with a weight limit of 20 tons, it is a culvert carrying a tributary of the Shenandoah Creek.

While work is ongoing, Route 54 will be completely closed between Newtown Road and Raven Run Road.

A detour is in place using the Gold Star Highway and the main road through Gilberton.
