Hazleton man accused of fleeing police, crashing car
DRUMS – A Hazleton man is wanted after police say he led officers on a chase last week.
Roan Feliz, 36, of Roosevelt Street, is wanted on felony counts of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and evading arrest or detention on foot; misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and multiple summary traffic offenses, according to Butler Township, Luzerne County, Police.
According to Butler Township Police, officers on patrol in the 100 block of South Hunter Highway received an alert from the cruiser’s license plate reader that a BMW passing in the opposite direction had a suspended registration related to insurance cancellation.
Officers caught up to the vehicle at a traffic light and, when the light turned green, the BMW rapidly changed lanes, speeding up to more than 80mph in a 45mph zone, police said.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled and crossed into oncoming lanes to pass another vehicle.
The suspect fled onto Interstate 80 towards White Haven, where police there found the vehicle, which left the interstate and lost control, striking a concrete barrier.
The driver, later identified as Feliz, ran and jumped over a guiderail, losing his shoe in the process.
Feliz is considered wanted and has not been apprehended.
Police from Conyngham and White Haven Boroughs, Sugarloaf and Kidder Townships, State Police and Hazleton City assisted in the investigation.
