Man accused of stealing handgun in Luzerne County
BEECH MOUNTAIN LAKES – A Wilkes-Barre area man is facing felony charges after police allege he swiped a handgun from a home.
Gary J. Mitchell, 21, of Jenkins Township, was arraigned Saturday morning on felony theft charges filed by Butler Township (Luzerne County) Police.
Officers were called to Trapper Springs Lane around 2am Saturday after witnesses said Mitchell swiped a Glock handgun and ran from a gathering at a home there.
One witness tried to follow him but lost him at Four Seasons Drive and Trapper Springs Lane.
He was later found by a Freeland police officer at the community’s guard station. Police say he was trying to leave in a rideshare vehicle.
Mitchell was taken into custody and the handgun was recovered, police said.
He was arraigned on felony theft and receiving stolen property charges and released on $20,000 unsecured bail.
A preliminary hearing is set for May 19.
