One killed in Interstate 80 crash in Luzerne County

ZENITH – A driver was killed after state troopers say they struck a traffic control vehicle at the scene of a different crash on Interstate 80 in Luzerne County Thursday morning.

The crash happened around 6am Thursday on Interstate 80 Eastbound near milepost 249.7 in Nescopeck Township.

According to State Police at Hazleton, a vehicle was driving in the left lane of Interstate 80 as a truck with a mounted arrow board was parked in that lane, directing traffic into the right lane around an earlier crash.

The vehicle drove through the coned off portion of the left lane and struck the traffic control truck. It then struck the guiderail on the right side of the highway and caught fire.

The driver was found dead inside the vehicle, troopers said.

The investigation is ongoing, troopers said. Firefighters from Valley Regional, Sugarloaf, and Nescopeck Township all responded.
