GIRARDVILLE – One catch and a few steps prevented Girardville’s bid to send Sunday’s Schuylkill County Teener League Senior Division quarterfinal into extras.

The #4-seeded Girardville (11-5) squad hosted #5 Schuylkill Haven (11-5) at Jack Travis Field on the east end Sunday afternoon.

The game remained a close affair throughout, leading to a 5-3 score entering the seventh and final inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, Girardville managed to score a run to halve their deficit.

With two outs and bases loaded, Girardville’s final batter made contact, allowing time for the third base runner to make it home, though the batter was a handful of steps short of making first before Haven’s first baseman caught him out.

The loss ends Girardville’s season with a record of 11-6, while Schuylkill Haven moves on to tomorrow’s semifinals at 5:30pm.
