SHENANDOAH – After four seasons at the helm of the Blue Devils, Ed Moran announced Friday morning that this season would be his last.

“Over the past four years, it has been an honor to serve as the Head Football Coach of the Shenandoah Valley Blue Devil Football program,” Moran said in a Facebook post. “We have faced many challenges, made improvements, and had successes and failures. I have tried to fulfill all the promises I made in my interview to rebuild the program, but fell short in accomplishing many wins on the field.”

The storied football program has been enduring a rough patch since 2013, which included a 34-game losing streak which Moran inherited.

That streak was snapped not long into Moran’s tenure with a victory over Columbia Montour Vo-Tech, and the Devils haven’t gone winless under his tenure either.

But, the Devils still haven’t been the regular playoff challenger they had been for decades prior to 2013.

“For this boys, I am truly sorry. You gave me your all, and we couldn’t get over the hump,” Moran said in the announcement. “Therefore, I have decided to step down as Head Football Coach at Shenandoah Valley High School to allow the Athletic Department and School to find a coach that will be able to take the program to the next level.”

Moran expressed gratitude to his coaching staff, the school district, and, of course, the players.

“I am sorry that I was unable to help you have more success on the football field,” Moran said. “I hope that when you look back you can at least know I always tried to improve the playing experience for you, and that know that I always wanted the best for each of you and cared about every player on our team.”

“I am grateful to have had the opportunity to have been the Head Football Coach at Shenandoah Valley High School,” Moran added. “It has been memorable for me to work with the student-athletes and has been a pleasure to work with the staff and administration. My kids and I will always remember my players, and our time together. Some of you have had a huge impact on me and my family. Thank you, boys, for giving me your best. I love you all, and Go Devils…”

Moran had a 6-34 record as head coach of the Devils, which included the program’s second-ever game and victory outside Pennsylvania.

Moran and his staff are still set to coach this year’s Schuylkill County All-Star game later this month.
