Schuylkill Historical Society to host retired general, county native

POTTSVILLE – Retired U.S. Four-Star General George Joulwan will be making two appearances on behalf of the Schuylkill County Historical Society on Memorial Day weekend.

Joulwan will sign copies of his memoir, “Watchman at the Gates,” at the Society’s building at 305 North Centre Street in Pottsville on Saturday, May 29, from 1 to 4 p.m. In the book, he tells about his childhood in Pottsville, training at West Point and military service that culminated in the position of Supreme Commander of the NATO Forces.

On Sunday, May 30, Joulwan will be the keynote speaker at a dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fountain Springs Country Inn, 52 Country Club Road in Ashland. Tickets for the event are $100 per person or $175 per couple, with proceeds benefiting the Society. Copies of his book will be available.
