BARNESVILLE – Ryan Township supervisors here envision a path between the two state parks there, and they’re seeking grants to explore the idea.

Supervisors will seek a grant through the Department of Community and Economic Development Greenways Trails and Recreation program.

The grant would help fund a feasibility study for a trail between Locust Lake State Park and Tuscarora State Park, both of which are located in Ryan Township. The study would cost about $93k, according to Bill McMullen of ARRO Engineering.

Township Supervisor Clyde ‘Champ’ Holman says local DCNR leadership is in favor of the project.

Supervisors engaged in a brief discussion regarding which grant would be the best to pursue, eventually landing on the DCED program.

They were initially eyeing a DCNR grant and will vote on the matter at May’s meeting.

In other business, supervisors voted to purchase internet equipment for the township police cruiser. Sgt. Michael Beidelman requested the equipment as the department looks to modernize. One aspect of that modernization, he said, would allow officers to file citations at the scene of a traffic stop rather than visiting District Court in Frackville each time.

Solicitor Chris Riedlinger told supervisors that a decision in an eminent domain case between the township and Eagle Auto is expected in May. A hearing was held in late March.
