Reading man leads police on pursuit from Shenandoah to Pottsville

POTTSVILLE – A Reading, Berks County man is behind bars after he led police on a pursuit from Shenandoah to the county seat this afternoon on a sportsbike.

The pursuit began around 12:46pm Monday when members of the state police ProActive Criminal Enforcement Team attempted to pull over a white motorcycle travelling south on the Gold Star Highway.

The bike, ridden by 30-year-old Jose Munez-Montero, of Reading, took off at a high rate of speed, leading state troopers, Frackville Police, and Pottsville City Police on a pursuit down Route 61.

City police set up a road block near the Pizza Hut in the city, where Munez-Montero was apprehended.

Munez-Montero was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker and committed to Schuylkill County Prison on $25,000 bail, facing 16 charges, mostly traffic violations, as well as reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and fleeing or eluding a police officer.
