The crash happened just before 2:00pm on I-81 Southbound in Kline Township.

State Police at Frackville said Juan-Carlos Martinez-Galeano, 37, of Gilberton was headed south on I-81 when he lost control of his 2003 Ford Explorer.

Troopers said he “applied his brakes hard,” skidding off the roadway and spinning.

The vehicle struck an embankment, rolled, and downed a sign.

The SUV came to a rest on its roof in the southbound passing lane when he and a 12-year-old passenger, also from Gilberton, climbed out.

As McAdoo firefighters arrived at the scene, Martinez-Galeano and the child fled in a passing motorist’s car, who eventually took the pair to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Schuylkill.

There, Martinez-Galeano was treated for a head wound.

Both were fully evaluated at the hospital, and both were seatbelted in the crash.
