Pottsville man accused of fleeing Frackville police on motorcycle

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL FILE - A Frackville Police vehicle in August 2019.

FRACKVILLE – A Pottsville man is facing fleeing or eluding, reckless driving, and careless driving charges, among others, after Frackville Police say he fled police on a motorcycle.

Kydiere Teel, 25, of 835 Fairmont Avenue, was charged Friday by Frackville Police Patrolman Brian Reno for the August incident.

According to Reno’s criminal complaint, he spotted a motorcycle without a license plate in the 400 block of West Pine Street around 5pm on August 22. The bike was ridden by a man wearing a camouflage jacket, a black backpack, and a black fullface helmet.

The patrolman attempted to perform a traffic stop on the bike, at which point, the rider looked back at the cruiser and then fled at speeds upwards of 50 miles per hour in a 25 zone, Reno wrote.

The bike then turned onto Seventh at about 45 miles per hour, then onto Oak, crossing a double yellow line and passing several vehicles that were stopped for the red light at Oak and Center.

Reno lost sight of the bike when it turned onto a cross street from Oak Street.

On Sept. 11, the Pottsville Bureau of Police spotted the motorcycle in the 500 block of North Centre Street and the operator was wearing the same attire as when he was pursued in Frackville.

The operator was identified as Teel and told Reno that he fled because he was scared and said he knew his motorcycle was not permitted on the road.

Teel also did not have a Class M license required to operate motorcycles in Pennsylvania.

A preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 11 in Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli’s Frackville courtroom.
