No Tax Increase in Tentative West Mahanoy Budget

SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – West Mahanoy Township residents will not see a tax increase in 2018, should the tentative budget approved at Tuesday evening’s meeting be approved in December.

Township supervisors voted to approve the 2018 tentative budget at their November regular meeting. Revenues and expenditures for the budget total $1,848,500.

Final adoption for the budget will occur at the December meeting of supervisors, set for December 20.

In other business, township supervisors approved a $1,000-per-year donation for five years to the Schuylkill Firefighter’s Financial Development Organization, to help alleviate the cost of the newly-constructed training facility.

Following the vote, Supervisor Chairman David Lukashunas expressed his belief that the fire school is  well-deserving of the donation.

In other business, township supervisors:

  • Accepted the resignation of Anthony Nedinsky, township auditor
  • Accepted the resignation of David Moses, full-time road worker
  • Approved the repository sale of 126 South Spencer Street to Francis Devizia of White Mills, Wayne County for $1229.
  • Retroactively approved advertising a full-time road worker position
  • Retroactively approved advertising a part-time code enforcement officer position
  • Approved the repository sale of 99 Schuylkill Avenue to JLH Development, LLC for $2278.
  • Hired William Moyer as a full-time police patrolman, retroactive to November 14, at a starting rate of $18.01 per hour with benefits.
  • Approved a change order for the Altamont Boulevard Road Reconstruction project.
