POTTSVILLE – No one was hurt when fire broke out in the attic of a home in the city Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters from three Pottsville Bureau of Fire fire companies were called around 4:30pm to a home at 1634 West Market Street for an automatic fire alarm.

Arriving firefighters found smoke showing from the third floor of the free-standing home, and the call was upgraded to a working house fire, bringing the remainder of the Bureau of Fire as well as Schuylkill Haven firefighters.

The fire was brought under control in short order, though firefighters from the Yorkville and West End fire companies remained on scene for a few hours.

Pottsville Assistant Chief Dan Kelly said no one was hurt in the fire, which began and was contained to the attic. Pets in the home were unharmed as well.

The residents will stay with friends, he added.

Yorkville firefighters brought their technical rescue vehicle to the scene to board up the attic window of the home.
