Murder charges filed in death of Pine Grove woman

Kalvin Clark

PINE GROVE – A man is now facing murder charges, in addition to previously-filed assault charges, following the death of his 73-year-old grandmother here last month.

Kalvin Clark, 32, of Pine Grove, is now facing first and third degree murder charges, District Attorney Mike O’Pake told the Sentinel Wednesday.

Clark was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, and strangulation related to the January 24 death of his grandmother, Sharon Zimmerman.

First responders were called to a home on North Tulpehocken Street that day for reports of a fall victim around 3:00pm.

State Police at Schuylkill Haven said Zimmerman and Clark had engaged in a physical altercation. While an autopsy was pending, troopers charged Clark with assault and related charges.

Homicide charges were filed today, as O’Pake said the autopsy determined the cause of death was “manual strangulation.”

Clark is currently lodged in Schuylkill County Prison, and is set to be arraigned on the two new charges on Friday, O’Pake said.
