SHENANDOAH – The employees at the Shenandoah Manor Nursing Center have their first union contract.

They are members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which announced Thursday that they ratified their first contract by a unanimous vote.

On average, staffers will receive an 18% wage increase and the introduction of an experience scale, longevity bonuses, and raises across-the-board, which they hope will help recruit and retain a skilled workforce.

Additionally, a better health insurance plan has been obtained with lower rates.

The ratification comes several months after a rally was held at the Pennsylvania Anthracite Miners Memorial, calling on Priority Healthcare, the current owners of the Manor, to take action on staffing levels, pay, and benefits.
