One struck, killed by train in Barnesville

BARNESVILLE – One person was struck and killed by a Reading and Northern locomotive in this Ryan Township village Thursday morning.

First responders were called to the area of 700 Tuscarora Mountain Road around 7:00am for reports of a pedestrian struck.

Arriving units from the Ryan Township Fire Co. and Ryan Township EMS found that a person had been struck by a train.

The person, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

State troopers from the Frackville barracks responded to the scene, but had little details to share, noting that the investigation is being handled by the Reading and Northern Railroad Police, and they are assisting.

Also responding to the scene were Delano Township firefighters, Rush Township police, and Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS.
